There are endless options out there for both fuzzes and overdrives, but we can tell you this: No overdrive will ever have the harmonic complexity or magical bloom and range compared to a great fuzz. Put your favorite Tube Screamer next to a killer fuzz, and you'll choose the fuzz. The roll-off of volume with a great germanium transistor-based fuzz can leave your Strat fatter and woodier than you've ever dreamed. For a video example, google up the YouTube video "The Pedal Everyone is Talking About," by Tim Pierce. This came out quite a while ago, and when it did, KingTone mini-GE fuzz prices skyrocketed. But now everyone has forgotten about them. Prices are so cheap for these: Simply throw down a couple hundred bucks, and it is our recommendation for a quick mind-altering grab-and-go you will never be disappointed in. Jesse Davey of KingTone is a major player with serious talent.

As for our TQR homebrew fuzzes, the Ge (germanium) with vintage NOS OC76's that were from a big stash Mr. Valco kindly sent us, let us make a couple. They are voodoo chiles, indeed, and there is plenty to learn from them. Soon enough, we will let the cat out of the bag on another fuzz builder we think has exceptional game, and we already have two of his builds and have commissioned a third that may be here by the end of summer. Good things take time. Will it be worth it? Time will tell, and you will hear all about it, or you may already be hearing our vintage Super Reverb and CJ Fuzz from here in Texas, since we are sending smoke signals that freak out the yuppies and rent-a-cops daily. Like a good, true ToneQuester, we tell them they can kiss our fuzzy Texas tails and turn it up even more. Hear my train a comin', baby. TQ—Riverhorse
