Players, Gear & Sound — The Inside
Nashville guitarist Ryan Wariner, son of Steve Wariner and now touring with Ann Wilson's band, takes the cover interview. He covers Van Halen and Jimmy Page, the role of an uncle and the gift of a '59 Strat, the Cornell and Cash studio sessions, wah pedals, the search from Strats to Pauls, life on the road with Ann Wilson, how the Normal channel on a black panel Deluxe can breathe fire, speakers, his pedal board, and his Hiwatts and AC-30. Scott Ulrichs reviews the 2022 Murphy Lab 1957 Light Aged Goldtop.

The Inside
Wariner Wisdom & Amplified Six-String Pursuits
By Scott Ulrichs. Nashville guitarist Ryan Wariner — son of Steve Wariner, now touring with Ann Wilson's band — sits down with TQR for a deep dive into his vintage Strats and Les Pauls, wah pedal obsession, and the amps and pedals that define his hard-won tone.
2022 MURPHY LAB 50TH ANNIVERSARY
1957 Light Aged Goldtop
By Scott Ulrichs. Gibson's Murphy Lab 1957 Light Aged Goldtop gets a hands-on field test, pitting its unpotted Custombuckers and aged nitro lacquer against a 2002 R7 through a Tungsten Crema Wheat combo. The result is a close look at how well Tom Murphy's team captures the real-world vibe of a vintage Goldtop.
It's easy to understand that Ryan Wariner has spent a good deal of his youthful time with Edward Van Halen and Jimmy Page. His fingers and heart convey the story of those magical lines and tones in an authentic and accurate manner, although it doesn't start and stop only with the music.
